As we are travelling to Italy on Sunday we decided to stay at the Rigiana today and enjoy the pool, the sun and just relax before we had to pack our bags for the flight! It was a nice way to spend the day as we've been doing quite a lot every day.
We found out that the pub across the road was closing the street and putting on a fund raising BBQ, so we decided to go and join the locals and help them out. The fund raising is for the fireworks that the village set off at the fiesta for their local saint, Saint Girgor, which is the name of the church here.
The meal consisted of nibbles, chicken, pork and sausages with salad and chips, followed by homemade ice cream - it was delicious and a lot of fun. The Manini Pub stays open until the last person leaves, so we had a group of Maltese dressed as Mexicans drop in about midnight, followed by a group of young English people! We also got chatting to Ange and Carmel, who are from Melbourne but his parents were from Kercem so they come over every couple of years for a month or more at a time. It was good meeting Mario the owner, and some of his cousins who work at the pub at various times and who had served us on our previous visits.
Tonight was a great way to end our time on Gozo and we will definitely be back!
