We had to use an Internet cafe this morning to print some docs, sign them, get them scanned and then email them back home. This took about an hour, so we got another late start!
The weather forecast said it was going to rain so we took our umbrellas with us as we caught the Metro to the big intersection where Cibeles Palace is located. On our way to the Prado, Madrid's version of the Louvre in Paris, we passed Neptunes Fountain, and then decided to have lunch first. This was a good and bad decision - good because it was a very enjoyable meal, bad because the forecast rain came while we were eating! We had hoped to be in the Prado by the time the rain came, and now we had to negotiate pouring rain and flooded roads just to get to the Prado, as well as endure a drop in temperature to what we've been used to!
However on seeing the queue to get in, all standing in the pouring rain, we decided to visit it another day. We walked back up the street, and stopped at the Thyssen Museum to check out if we wanted to go there instead. We thought we'd save our artistic day for the Prado! Cibeles Palace was open so we went to visit this magnificent building, which used to be their main Post Office but has now been renovated as an exhibition space with public lounges, a restaurant and a viewing deck. The views from here were fabulous, and the renovation has maintained the buildings old features and history.
By the time we had looked at the various floors and exhibitions and were ready to head home, the skies had cleared and it had stopped raining. We strolled back to our apartment for an early night so we can get an early start tomorrow!
