We mastered the Madrid Metro system and caught the train across town to visit Retiro Park, the Spanish capital's equivalent of Central Park in NYC. It was a beautiful day for a walk in the park, and we made the most of it. After checking out a couple of nearby "grand buildings" we headed into the park, checking out the lake and the local version of the Crystal Palace. By the time we finished this delightful stroll we were ready for another delicious lunch, which also gave us a well earned rest!
We encountered a technical difficulty with the iPad, so we set off for the Apple Store after lunch. We had seen the store in Puerta Del Sol when we were there on Saturday so we knew where to go. Another embarrassing moment as all the expert did was turn it off then on again and the problem was fixed! After that we needed our afternoon siesta!!
Our evening stroll took us into some more parkland in the area near our apartment, walking past a great monument to Cervantes, Don Quixote and Pancho Sanza in Plaza de Espagna, then on to the Temple of Debod in a nearby park. This ancient temple was given to Spain in 1968 by Egypt as it was located in Aswan and was about to be inundated when the Aswan dam was finished, so at least it was saved even if it is out of place! We couldn't go in, but it was a highlight of this park. We continued on to the Sabatini Gardens, and stayed to watch the sunset on another lovely day in Madrid. They certainly have some beautiful parks.
