Vancouver to Kamloops

Tuesday, September 15

Oh bliss! After a wonderful (& long) sleep, we woke up feeling much brighter than we had felt yesterday. We had a hearty breakfast then loaded up our van to start the next part of our trip - driving around Canada for 8 days.

With Tony navigating and Al driving, we drove out of Vancouver and on to the Trans Canadian Highway heading for Kamloops. Before long we were seeing glorious scenery and the road was a dream to drive along. After a couple of hours, we turned off the highway and drove into Hope, a beautiful Canadian town, made all the nicer when we ordered our coffee and cake. At last we had a really good coffee like we get at home and the cakes were fantastic. We walked around the town and were fascinated with all the carved wooden statues in the streets. It was a really pretty town with the most magnificent backdrop of tall mountains covered in spruce trees and the low cloud made it even prettier. Tony was successful in finding a pawn shop and bought some more military medals for his collection so we all voted Hope a worthwhile stop.

We left Hope and continued our journey towards Kamloops passing some beautiful scenery as we went.

Tom Tom was not as specific as we would have liked on our arrival in Kamloops and we had that sense of "near and yet so far" as we could see our hotel but couldn't find the right road to reach it. All our Tom Tom guide could say was to turn around as soon as possible and yet we could see the hotel in front of us. More by good luck than good management we found ourselves on the right road. This being the case, we decided to eat at the restaurant over the road so as not to spend the night circling Kamloops. It was a good choice and we are now back in our room with very full stomachs looking out over the lights of Kamloops. An enjoyable end to an enjoyable day!
