North to Alaska - day 2 at sea

Thursday, September 3

Another of our fave days - a sea day. For us this means a sleep-in followed by a leisurely breakfast and then we start thinking about what we will do for the day.

We had consulted "Princess Patter" last night to see today's program and, as usual there is plenty to keep us occupied. Not wanting to do too much today, we settled on attending a talk by the Cruise Director on the next three ports we will visit. It was quite good with some historical info mixed with things to do and helpful hints on getting around in each place. Ketchikan, Juneau and Skagway are all very compact so it appears we can walk around them so that suits us perfectly.

After the talk it was time for a coffee and pastry before heading off to Bingo with our complimentary card. Really don't know how people can get so hooked on Bingo but it was amusing to watch the serious way in which some people approached it. Of course, we didn't win!

From there it was to the Provence Restaurant for lunch. It's a tough life this cruising business. We shared a table with another Aussie couple from Brisbane, Jenny & Michael, and had a great time with them until we realised we were the last people remaining in the restaurant and it was time for them to be at their Spa appointment.

After all the eating we have done, we decided we had better walk a few laps of the ship. The sign told us that 2.8 laps equalled one mile so we did five laps and could almost feel our halos! It was quite fresh walking along one side of the ship but absolutely glorious in the warm sun (yes, I did say "sun") on the other.

Glorious sunshine

.... but still not quite warm enough to entice the sunbathers out

After a short rest it was time to put on our glad rags for the first Formal Night of the cruise and the Captain's Welcome Aboard Party. Dinner was a special "50th Anniversary Celebration" as Princess is celebrating 50 years of cruising so we enjoyed a fabulous meal. The raspberry chocolate mousse was especially good!

Yes, I think we have left the rain behind

All dolled up in our Glad Rags
