North to Alaska - Day 7 (Cruising)

Tuesday, September 8

We started today's activities with a cooking demo by the Executive chef and Dining Room manager, and it was a lot of fun. They then led us for a quick tour through the galley and it was fascinating to see where and how our meals are prepared each and every day.

Today was the last day of our cruise and another day at sea, firstly sailing into Prince William Sound, and later in the day sailing up College Fjord. This is no ordinary fjord as it's full of glaciers, all named after the major colleges in the US (except Princeton!) Unfortunately the weather was grey and drizzly, so the scenery wasn't pristine perfect, but it was still spectacular. There was just one glacier after another, and bigger and better than the ones in Glacier Bay - so much so we wondered why this fjord wasn't called Glacier Bay! Below are some pics of the scenery from College Fjord, but I can't remember their names as there were so many and it was too cold on the deck to stay and listen to all the commentary.

When we weren't out on deck we took up front row seats in the Crooner's Bar and toasted our Alaskan cruise with a bottle of champers.

Today was also the day we had to pack, and because we're heading into the wilderness we had to send some luggage to the lodge in Denali and some to the final hotel in Fairbanks. This meant we had to work out what was necessary and what we could do without for 5 nights. With our bags already taken we hope we've made the right choices!

We enjoyed our last dinner on board with our favorite waiters Frosina and Taras. They have made each dining experience with them memorable with their excellent service, teamwork and attitude. Thank you.
