Sailing from Lisbon, Portugal to Southampton, England

Wednesday & Thursday, May 7 & 8

Our last two sea days before this fantastic cruise comes to an end. Many of the passengers are disembarking at Southampton so time in the laundries has become a primary concern for many and we have had to resort to using the laundry during meal or show times (the early ones anyway) - and even then there is a queue!

Since moving into the Atlantic, we have encountered some fairly healthy swells and have found ourselves walking along decks in zigzag fashion, embracing others on stairways and, this morning, taking a shower was like riding a surfboard. Some passengers are queasy but thankfully we have not had any ill effects. It would do us both a lot of good to be off our food for a while but that has not happened!

We can't report on what is outside because it is a thick fog and our captain is sounding the fog horn at regular intervals. The temperature has also dropped to about 12c so we must be getting close to England!!

No horizon in sight and freezing.
Blankets have replaced beach towels if you're brave enough to sit outside!

All the usual activities are available today but it appears that many passengers have chosen to sleep in or are in their cabins packing (or in the laundries!!!). We had a lovely lie-in ourselves and are now thinking about lunch - oh the challenges of cruising!

Last night was one of the highlight shows for us. We were entertained by Jon Courtenay - an hilarious English comedian and fantastic piano player. He had us (and the accompanying band) in hysterics - he was so quick-witted but when he played the piano, it brought the house down. He could play (& sing) anything from the classics to boogie-woogie. We left the show feeling weak from laughing so much but we really had a very enjoyable night. The only down-side for Noelle was that Jon looked so much like her brother Geoff, it made her feel a bit homesick.

The "Geoff" look alike!
