Sunday May 11
A drama packed day followed a good sleep in, starting with a major repack of all cases to meet the weight requirement for the flight to Copenhagen. We accomplished this at midday which was the time we had to check out of our room, so we just made that deadline.
We then took a drive to the nearby seaside village to get some lunch, and as it was blowing a gale and raining (again) we decided to head off to the airport and wait there. However we did have a peak at the North Sea from the top of a sand dune and it wasn't very inviting - in fact it was hard to hold the iPad steady the wind was so strong! The picture actually doesn't do justice to how bleak it was.
We again followed a Google map and directions and eventually found the rental car return exit we needed at Schipol Airport and made our way to check in at SAS without incident. We weren't even queried about our bulging shoulder bags as well as maxed out carry on bags so we were relieved at that. The flight to Copenhagen was un eventful but then the drama began.
One of our cases didn't come out to join it's "big brother" so we waited and waited. Eventually we went and reported it (along with a bunch of other people) and the lady told us to check some of the other carousels as our case wasn't showing as missing in their system. Another 15 minutes of searching with no luck and we were back to the same lady, this time filling out our details for her and being assured they would deliver it to our hotel either tonight or in the morning. If it hadn't showed up by the time we left the hotel they would send it straight to the ship, either in Copenhagen or one of our other ports. This didn't thrill us as we had no idea what was in it after all the repacking! Just as we turned to walk away from the counter we looked at the carousel closest to us and our case had just appeared, so we had to go and report the happy news to our new best friend. She told us that we couldn't take it as we had done all the paperwork - we thought that was dumb, then she said she was just joking!! Ha Ha, who said the Danes didn't have a sense of humour.
We reached our hotel after a lovely taxi ride and had a brief reunion with Pat & Burgess who had arrived from Austin Texas earlier in the day and were staying at the same hotel. It's going to be a lot of fun on this next cruise and we catch up with Bill & Linda tomorrow.
Our final "drama" was having to open all the cases, which we were trying to avoid, as we needed to get out toiletries, clothes and other bits and pieces before we could go to bed. Some of the things we needed were of course in the case that went missing for a while, so we would have been in trouble if it hadn't shown up when it did. Another eventful day of travel!
