Appledore to Tenby, Wales

Sunday, June 8

This morning we attended the 10:30 service at Appledore Baptist Church. It is the church Aunty Betty attends regularly but also happened to be only a few doors away from the Seagate where we were staying. The people we met there were very friendly and it was obvious that Aunty Betty is a very popular member. The service was very good with a young visiting lay preacher who delivered a great message on Pentecost Sunday but, to our embarrassment (and Aunty Betty's), we had to leave before the service ended as we had a lunch reservation for12 noon down on Appledore Quay!

Lunch with Aunty Betty

Aunty Betty had chosen the Quay cafe because they do a fabulous Sunday roast that she loves and we weren't disappointed with our pork and all the trimmings. It was then time to say our goodbyes. Aunty Betty was an absolute delight and a real character - we could see so much of Angie in her!

The sun was shining as we left Appledore and it was nice and warm. Unfortunately there were quite a lot of "Sunday drivers" on the road. Sat Nav told us we had a bit over 200 miles to reach Tenby in Wales and that it would take about 3.5 hours using the fastest route but Sat Nav doesn't know about slow drivers, roadworks or thunderstorms that caused the speed limit to drop from 70 mph to 50 mph, or the loo stops we needed so our journey actually took 4.5 hours. The temperature also fluctuated from mid 20s to mid teens and back again as we travelled from sunshine, through thunderstorms then bright sunshine again. We had to pay one toll and that was to cross the huge bridge over the river as we skirted around Bristol and that cost about A$12 so we won't complain about Eastlink tolls again.

We knew from the photos on Booking.com that our next B&B was painted green, so it certainly stood out in the sunshine when we arrived in Tenby.

The Croyland B&B

However when we were shown to our room it was decorated in green as well, but it did look better than the red themed room we saw on the way to ours!

After we settled in we went for a short walk to explore the area and were surprised to find we were only one street from the old town and stunning views over the harbour and along the coast. We're really looking forward to exploring this beautiful part of the world.
